CR0 9AA to RH10 & RH11
A full hour down the M23, which is why Crawley work is booked in rather than squeezed in.
Crawley is about 18.8 miles from our Croydon depot at Pear Tree Farm, Featherbed Lane, a typical drive of 60 minutes by the A23 and M23 to junction 10, then the A2011. We run grab lorries carrying up to 16 tonnes into RH10 and RH11, under waste carrier registration CBDU480663.
Send the site postcode, what is on the ground and when you need it moved. We will come back with a written quotation. There is no charge for a quote and no obligation to book.
Lines are answered by the people who run the lorries, not a call centre. Same-day collection is often possible but always subject to availability.
An hour each way is the figure that governs everything about a Crawley job. At about 18.8 miles and a typical car drive of 60 minutes from Pear Tree Farm, Featherbed Lane, a single load means roughly two hours of driving before the crane has moved anything. That is why Crawley is planned work with a start time on it, usually early in the day, rather than something we drop into a gap between two local jobs. Where the work allows, we run a delivery down and a collection back so the vehicle is earning in both directions.
Add roughly 15 to 20 per cent to that car time for a loaded eight-wheeler, and treat every figure here as typical rather than guaranteed. The motorway leg makes the journey predictable most of the time and awkward when it is not: when the northbound M23 between junctions 10 and 9 is closed, traffic is signed off at junction 10 onto the A2011 and A264, which puts the return leg onto local roads that are already busy. If your programme depends on a load landing at a fixed hour, book the slot rather than the day.
Manor Royal is where most of our Crawley commercial work sits, and it is a one-way problem rather than a width problem. Metcalf Way and County Oak Way both operate under a one-way system introduced with the Manor Royal highway improvements, and a bus lane was added on Manor Royal itself. On a one-way system the approach direction decides which side of the unit the lorry can stand, and with a crane reach of up to 7.5 metres from the side of the vehicle that is the difference between loading over the fence and shifting material by barrow. Tell us the unit number and which end the material is at.
The other thing that separates Crawley from our London routes is that there is no local household site to fall back on. Crawley Recycling Centre on Metcalf Way, RH11 7XN refuses vehicles over 3.5 tonnes gross weight or over 2.2 metres high, along with Luton vans, tippers, flatbeds, drop-sides, horseboxes and twin-axle trailers, and requires a booked slot. Nothing off a building job goes through it. Ground conditions push the same way: the Gatwick sub-region flood risk assessment records impermeable Weald Clay bedrock beneath Quaternary clay, silt, sand and gravel, so muck away here is usually wet, heavy cohesive clay with little value as granular fill. Plan to remove it and to import MOT Type 1 or crushed concrete for the fill, rather than hoping to re-use what comes out.
RH10, RH11
Crawley loads tend to be bigger and fewer than our London ones, because the distance rewards filling the vehicle properly. Muck away from Weald Clay digs, hardcore and demolition arisings from unit refurbishments in Manor Royal, and deliveries of MOT Type 1, crushed concrete, ballast and topsoil make up most of it. Our Crawley pages cover grab hire, muck away and topsoil supply, and each explains what we can and cannot take on a standard booking.
About 60 minutes for a car over roughly 18.8 miles, using the A23 and M23 to junction 10 and then the A2011. A loaded eight-wheeler adds roughly 15 to 20 per cent on top. These are typical times rather than guarantees, and a closure on the M23 between junctions 10 and 9 diverts traffic onto the A2011 and A264.
Because the driving alone is about two hours for a single load. A Croydon or Carshalton job can be fitted around other work on the same morning; Crawley takes a committed slot in the diary. Same-day collection is often possible but always subject to availability, and the earlier we know, the better we can pair a delivery down with a collection back.
No. Crawley is in West Sussex, well outside the Greater London boundary, and Transport for London states the Ultra Low Emission Zone operates only across the London boroughs and the City of London, with the M25 itself not in the zone. Our vehicles meet London standards anyway, since the same lorries work north of the boundary on other days.
No. Crawley Recycling Centre refuses vehicles over 3.5 tonnes gross or over 2.2 metres high, and refuses Luton vans, tippers, flatbeds, drop-sides, horseboxes and twin-axle trailers, with a booked slot required for the vehicles it does accept. Construction arisings need a registered carrier, and we remove them under registration CBDU480663 with a transfer note.
