It sits directly adjacent to Beddington Lane in Sutton across the borough boundary, and the adopted South London Waste Plan safeguards several waste facilities in the area, including European Metal Recycling on Ellis Road, Deadman Confidential at 35 Willow Lane and the Riverside anaerobic digestion and bio-waste treatment facilities at 43 Willow Lane.
Closer in, the Mitcham Cricket Green Conservation Area appraisal records that much of the area, particularly around the Lower Green, is affected by traffic congestion, noise and fumes, with narrow public realm and fast-moving traffic in Church Road and heavy traffic on Cricket Green. Commonside West bounds the conservation area along the edge of Mitcham Common, a 182-hectare open space on the boundaries of Merton, Croydon and Sutton crossed by Windmill Road. These are not streets where a lorry can improvise a loading position.
Underneath, Merton’s Level 1 Strategic Flood Risk Assessment records solid geology of Lambeth Group and London Clay, with drift dominated by River Terrace Deposits and alluvium along the Wandle valley. The conservation area appraisal notes that the local alluvial deposits proved easier to cultivate than the heavier clays elsewhere in the London basin. Excavations around the Cricket Green and the Wandle corridor therefore commonly yield sand, gravel and soft alluvium as well as clay, which affects how a load weighs out far more than how it looks in the bucket.
Not on the box junctions, and there are more of them here than most drivers expect. London Road, Mitcham has camera-enforced yellow box junctions in force 24 hours a day at Armfield Crescent, Bond Road, Broadway Gardens and Lavender Avenue, with a further box on Western Road at Bond Road.
London Road also carries a 24-hour restricted route, a no-U-turn between Linden Place and Baron Grove, and 24-hour bans on right turns into Baron Grove and into Lavender Avenue. Sibthorp Road by the car park is a camera-enforced pedestrian zone at all times, and there are 24-hour no-entry restrictions on Armfield Crescent outside the library car park, on Langdale Avenue and on St Mark’s Road at Armfield Crescent.
The practical answer is that the loading position is chosen before the vehicle leaves the yard, using the site address rather than the postcode. Give us the house number and we will tell you which side of the road the lorry can work from.

Garth Road at 63-69 Amenity Way, Morden SM4 4AX accepts hardcore, rubble and soil in small quantities only, up to six 80-litre bags per vehicle every six months, and it does not accept commercial waste at all. Vans, trailers and large vehicles have to book and are admitted on limited weekday and Saturday morning slots, so a dig has to leave by lorry.
No permit is needed for the lorry, because it loads from the road and leaves rather than standing on the kerb. The restrictions that matter are the camera-enforced ones: yellow box junctions on London Road at Armfield Crescent, Bond Road, Broadway Gardens and Lavender Avenue, a pedestrian zone on Sibthorp Road, and 24-hour no-entry points on Armfield Crescent, Langdale Avenue and St Mark’s Road.
Yes. Willow Lane is the spine road of Merton’s largest Strategic Industrial Location and is used to heavy vehicle movements, with safeguarded waste facilities along it including Ellis Road and 43 Willow Lane. Access is straightforward compared with the conservation area streets nearer the Cricket Green. Give us the unit number and gate position and the driver will approach from the right end of the lane.
Less than most places, because the depot is close. Mitcham is about 3.4 miles from our Featherbed Lane operating centre, roughly ten minutes by car on the A236 Mitcham Road and Croydon Road, with a loaded eight-wheeler adding around 15 to 20 per cent. Same-day collection is often possible but always subject to availability, so ring as early in the day as you can.
Ten things are off the list on a standard booking: asbestos, gas bottles, batteries, railway sleepers, mattresses, tyres, fridges, freezers, paint and chemicals or liquids of any kind.
