Two jobs, one vehicle. The lorry either lifts material off your site and takes it away, or arrives loaded with aggregate and places it where the crane can reach. The topography follows the geology. Water is the other constraint. Croydon’s Local Flood Risk Management Strategy lists the corridor from Brighton Road through Purley into central Croydon among the borough’s recorded surface water and groundwater flooding locations, and attributes part of that vulnerability to the chalk geology in the south of the borough, where fractures let groundwater collect and flow through the valley routes. If you are digging deep on that corridor, plan for water in the excavation rather than assuming a dry dig.
For access, the road network is simple but constrained. The A235 Brighton Road is the principal north-south route, running from Croydon’s South End down to Purley, with Selsdon Road heading south-east from the Swan and Sugar Loaf junction and Sanderstead Road climbing towards Sanderstead. Coombe Road carries the real restriction: the Borough Transport Strategy lists its Network Rail bridge among six borough structures with an 18 to 20 tonne weight limit and programmed for strengthening or replacement, so a loaded lorry has to divert rather than take the direct line east.
