Lewisham applies a stricter 7.5 tonne ban to the roads bounded by the A21, which the council names as Sangley Road, Plassy Road, Brownhill Road, Verdant Lane and Whitefoot Lane, so a loaded eight-wheeler has to stay on the classified network and work in from it. That is the first thing to check when you book. If the site sits inside that box, we plan a standing position on the nearest classified road and use the crane reach of up to 7.5 metres from the side of the vehicle to bridge the gap, rather than driving in and hoping.
Ground conditions change quickly across the town. Lewisham’s Strategic Flood Risk Assessment records the southern half of the borough, Catford included, as underlain by the London Clay Formation, with the Kempton Park Gravel Member of sand and gravel and small areas of alluvium along the Ravensbourne and Pool corridors. Yes, two separate ones. Goods vehicles over 18 tonnes are banned from most Lewisham roads from 9pm to 7am on weekdays and from 1pm Saturday to 7am Monday, with only the A205 exempt. Separately, vehicles over five tonnes gross weight may not park on the public highway anywhere in the borough between 6.30pm and 8am.
