Most run Monday to Saturday from 8.30am to 6.30pm, but W3 and W4 run Monday to Saturday from 8.30am to 11pm and again on Sundays and bank holidays from 2pm to 6pm, and H3 is permit holders only. The Championships redraw the map for a fortnight. Merton Council closes or restricts around twenty roads in Wimbledon Village and Wimbledon Park daily from 8.30am until 11.30pm, including sections of Church Road, Somerset Road, Marryat Road between Burghley Road and Somerset Road, and Bathgate Road between Somerset Road and Queensmere Road. Entry to Marryat Road from the High Street, and to Somerset Road, Calonne Road and Parkside Avenue from Parkside, is blocked as well. In 2026 the parking restrictions ran from 29 June to 12 July, with no parking from 8.30am to 11.30pm on Parkside, Church Road, High Street Wimbledon, Woodhayes Road, West Side Common, Cannizaro Road, Bathgate Road and Marryat Road.
Outside that fortnight the A219 is the working spine, running past Wimbledon Common and through the town by Parkside, Wimbledon Hill Road and The Broadway before it meets the A24 just after South Wimbledon station. The A24 crosses the eastern side of the borough as High Street Colliers Wood and Merantun Way. Wimbledon Park Road matters to anyone working near the All England Club: the Greater London Authority’s Stage 2 report names its northern end as the main construction HGV route into the Wimbledon Park scheme, where recontouring of the former golf course, de-silting of Wimbledon Park Lake and de-culverting of Bigden Brook and Margin Brook run across a build programmed from 2025 to 2033.
Ground conditions vary more than many SW19 sites expect. The London Geodiversity Partnership records London Clay at the base of Wimbledon Common, forming the surface where the western side slopes towards the Beverley Brook, with the sandier Claygate Member under all the higher parts, a rare Bagshot Formation sand exposure off Gravelly Ride and about three metres of Black Park Gravel capping the plateau above 50 metres. Spoil can therefore be stiff, wet clay on the lower slopes and acidic sand and gravel on the high ground. None of it can go to Garth Road: Merton’s household centre off Amenity Way in Morden refuses vehicles over 3.5 tonnes, over five metres long or with more than four wheels, and takes no commercial or trade waste at all.
On the outbound side we take soil, stones, muck, concrete, rubble, hardcore, demolition waste and green waste. Mixed loads from a strip-out or a garden reshape are fine, provided the material is loose enough for the grab to lift and free of the items listed below.

Neither option is cheaper by default, since the material, the volume and the standing position drive the cost.

No. Garth Road Household Reuse and Recycling Centre is open to Merton residents disposing of household waste, and commercial or trade waste is not accepted. It also refuses vehicles over 3.5 tonnes maximum gross weight, over five metres long or with more than four wheels, so a tipper or grab lorry cannot discharge there. Trade material needs a registered carrier and a proper disposal route.
