One practical point for anyone thinking of moving small quantities themselves: Tandridge District Council’s only managed car park in Caterham, Town End at Caterham on the Hill CR3 5UX, has height barriers admitting no vehicle over two metres including any load, and bans trailers, caravans and motor homes. The nearest Surrey community recycling centre, Warlingham on Bond Road CR6 9SD, opens only Thursday to Saturday, accepts no business waste and does not admit vans or pickups at all. Because MOT Type 1 is a specification rather than a rock type, recycled crushed concrete can be produced to it. Material is supplied to the grade ordered, with paperwork provided on request.

Some things cannot travel on a standard booking: asbestos, gas bottles, batteries, railway sleepers, mattresses, tyres, fridges, freezers, paint, chemicals and liquids. Sorting those out of the pile before the lorry arrives keeps the job moving.
