It is the sweep-up at the end of a build, and it is usually heavier than the client expects. Booked through our site clearance services, a builders clearance takes rubble, hardcore, broken concrete, demolition waste, timber offcuts and packaging off the plot in one planned sequence rather than a trickle of van loads.
The work is done with grab lorries carrying 20 cubic yards and up to 16 tonnes per job, subject to loading and road restrictions. The Epsilon crane, inspected on a regular schedule, reaches up to 7.5 metres from the side of the vehicle depending on the vehicle and the site, so material can be lifted over a hoarding or a boundary wall.
Because so many Bromley plots sit on sloping ground with retaining works, the practical question is rarely the tonnage. It is where the lorry can legally stand and what the crane has to clear on the way up. That is what a free site visit settles.
The borough’s household disposal route is under pressure, which is the first thing to understand about clearing anything here. The Waldo Road Reuse and Recycling Centre on Waldo Road is temporarily closed while depot upgrade works are carried out and is expected to reopen in late 2026. A temporary weekend site is reached from Baths Road, BR2 9RB, on a booking, taking only a limited range of bulky items, and residents are being directed to Churchfields Road in Beckenham. For trade material that route was never available in any case, which is why builders clearance in BR1 and BR2 goes out with a registered carrier and a transfer note.
On the roads, the A21 through Bromley is a Transport for London red route that the council describes as running from the M25 to the Lewisham boundary at Bromley Hill, so stopping, loading and unloading are banned where the red lines run, whether that is Kentish Way or Masons Hill. The council’s Local Plan lists the A21 at Masons Hill and Westmoreland Road as a junction needing improvement. For a clearance job the working alternatives are the A222 Tweedy Road and Beckenham Lane along the northern and western edges of the centre, and the A2212 Burnt Ash Lane for anything running north towards Lee Green.
Parking rules in the centre are unusually specific. The High Street is pedestrianised from Market Square to Elmfield Road following the council’s public realm scheme, so town centre work has to be served off Kentish Way and the side streets. Bromley North Village is one of only two restricted parking zones in the borough, and this is the detail that catches people out: there are no yellow lines at all, and waiting or loading is permitted only in signed bays. The town centre also has a controlled parking zone split into inner and outer areas, with the hours of restriction shown on signs at each zone entry point. On top of that, goods vehicles over 18 tonnes need London Lorry Control Scheme permission to use most borough roads between 9pm and 7am on weekdays and from 1pm on Saturday until 7am on Monday, and the borough sits inside the ULEZ, which Transport for London operates in the same area as the LEZ and the Direct Vision Standard.
The clearance work itself is being driven by the town centre’s redevelopment. Councillors approved a mixed-use scheme at One Westmoreland Road, next to Bromley South station, on 2 September 2025, for 138 homes in buildings of three to nineteen storeys plus offices, a cafe and public realm. Galliard Homes completed the purchase of the 6.74-acre former Bromley Civic Centre campus, beside Bromley Palace Park, on 4 April 2025, opening up one of the largest redevelopment sites in the town. The council’s conservation area appraisal explains why these sites are awkward to clear and excavate: the High Street sits on an elevated plateau that slopes away to the south, with the land dropping steeply into the Shortlands valley to the west and the Ravensbourne valley below, which is why so many town centre sites need retaining works and stepped excavation.
Garden and green waste clearance is turf, soil, stumps, hedge and tree cuttings, and very often the old patio and the sub-base beneath it. It is heavier than it looks once soil is involved, and the mix matters, because separating green waste from spoil on site is easier than separating it afterwards.
Pre-build clearance strips a plot back to bare ground before setting out: vegetation, sheds, fencing, hardstanding and anything else standing in the way of the first excavation. The programme date is the thing to tell us, since that is what everything else is planned around.
Void clearance empties a property between tenancies or ahead of refurbishment. It is the type most likely to run into the restricted list, because the items left in an empty flat tend to be exactly the ones a standard load cannot carry.

Each type is quoted on its own terms and each leaves site with a waste transfer note.
Every load leaves under a waste transfer note. Duty of care puts the responsibility for waste on the person who produced it, so that note is what shows your material went to a registered carrier and not into a lay-by. The carrier behind that note is Prime Waste Services Ltd, company number 14793814, registered as a waste carrier under CBDU480663 and running four vehicles authorised at its Croydon operating centre on licence OK2066087.
The restricted list is short and firm. Asbestos, gas bottles, batteries, railway sleepers, mattresses, tyres, fridges, freezers, paint, chemicals and liquids cannot go on a standard booking and need a separate arrangement. What we do remove is soil, stones, muck, concrete, rubble, hardcore, demolition waste and green waste, and the same vehicle can bring back MOT Type 1, crushed concrete, ballast, sharp sand, building sand, topsoil or shingle if the plot needs building up again.
Local disposal will not help you here. The Waldo Road Reuse and Recycling Centre is a household site, and the main centre is temporarily closed for depot upgrade works, expected to reopen in late 2026, with a booked weekend site off Baths Road, BR2 9RB taking a limited range of bulky items and residents directed to Churchfields Road in Beckenham in the meantime. Trade waste from a build was never going there, and there is even less spare capacity now.
